I was deeply saddened to hear that James Kim was found dead today in the Oregon wilderness. While I did not know James Kim, I did feel a kinship with him, as I am sure many did in the tech community here in the bay area. We lost one of our own.
You hear about heroes all the time, and certainly a great many are serving overseas in these troubled times. But seldom do you find one in your own back yard. I can only imagine the conversation Kim had with his wife just before he set out on his own, as she likely begged him not to go. I can’t pretend to know the grief she and her family are going through right now, knowing that if he’d only waited a few more days, their family would still be whole.
Our thoughts and prayers are with James Kim and his family on this sad day.

I share the same sentiments with what is written above. Like you, I don’t know this man but hearing what they had gone through really strikes a deep chord with reagrds to self-preservation. It also raises awareness of the importance of having an emergency pack when you and your family are going on a road trip during seasons like this where the weather isso unpredicatable.
This is one example of how important cell phones are despite of all the annoyance this piece of equipment has brought to our lives. But the most important lesson that was taken from this event was that James Kim is and was a HERO and now me must be at rest with the person upstairs knowing that his family is safe.
Thanks.
