It’s been terrible these past few days watching the fires ravage Southern California. It’s also been amazing to see the community come together to assist, and the brave men and women struggling to bring the fires under control and help the injured and displaced through the ordeal. In such an event, politics should take a back seat. But not according to Glen Beck, conservative talker who also somehow managed to snag a show on CNN Headline News.
Check out the audio clip below…
This is simply the latest in series of incendiary statements made by Beck over the last several months. To believe I spent the better part of a year listening to him in the car just to get a sense of how the other side thinks. In a later broadcast, Beck indicated he was only joking with regards to that little quip about those losing their homes to the fire were America Haters. Funny thing was.. didn’t sound like a joke… Didn’t feel like a joke. It actually wasn’t very funny. Perhaps you should dial in a laugh track when your joking, Mr. Beck. Might be helpful. Then we’d know.
And with any luck, like most recent shows with a laugh track, you’d be canceled.

I don’t listen to Beck because of his bombast, exaggerated style of speaking and his “oh, I’m so smart,” self inflated attitude.
It’s perplexing why anyone wants to listen to him showcasing his ego - even conservatives.

“I believe that there are America HATERS and these are the people that are getting their homes burned down”. This is NOT funny Beck!! There is karma in this world and like they say, “What goes around, hey, comes around”. You watch it!
You and your cadre of war criminals are the real America hater!!

Agree that disasters should not be diminished by politics and that political commentary should take a back seat in this case. It is even more important to align theory with practice… On the heels of the Katrina disaster, a cokumn was posted on this very site that stated “reluctantly” that some questions should be asked (this was posted only a day or two after the hurricane had devastated New Orleans. One question pointed to global warming, 2 to President Bush, 1 to the war in Iraq and 1 that asked the question (and I paraphrase) - should we bail out those who keep going back to the area?
In the interest of consistency, I posted my reaction and I reaffirm what I wrote then about the terrible fires in Southern California and Mr Beck’s comments - they were/are inappropriate.
To the credit of “Inside, Looking Out,” the subsequent apology seemed quite sincere - the words, “it was a joke” were certainly not used.

Here I thought the fires were because god hated Mel Gibson. It’s a good thing that someone has all the answers - maybe he should coach California on their wildlands management so there will be less devastating fires in the future.
