A San Jose family placed a large “Yes on 8″ banner on the front of their house, after their “Yes on 8″ yard signs were recently stolen.
To counter the sign, supporters of marriage equality parked an SUV in front of the house with the words “Bigots Live Here” emblazoned on the rear window, with an arrow pointing toward the house.

The Sundstroms are Mormon. At the behest of their leaders in Utah, Mormons here and throughout the country are working hard to pass Proposition 8, donating nearly 10 million so far. Many going as far as taking a second mortgage out on their homes or withdrawing their savings to fund their cause.
And the Sundstroms donated $30,000 to Yes on Prop 8. Yesterday.
These are unintended consequences and we are hurting ourselves.
Not good for us.

I am having mixed feelings about this. For one, I am greatly disappointed with the way the NO on 8 are acting out there, specifically their actions towards this family. But I am also dumbfounded with how bigotry is alive and thriving out there.
I agree that this act does not serve our fight for equality but a little voice inside of me is saying, maybe they should have done more like burn their house down while they were sleeping.
Would you like us to donate $100,000?

What surprises me about a Mormon family donating to an amendment that would institutionalize inequality is that a review of the history of the LDS church reveals that Mormons were one of the most hated and persecuted groups of people and were basically forced to flee to Utah where they finally found a place that they could live in peace. Perhaps this family needs to review its history before making such large contributions to a cause that is the equivalent to the banishing of John Smith and his followers to the Great Salt Lake…
By the way, I never have even a little voice that ever suggests burning down a house while people or sleeping or anything violent for that matter…I don’t think it’s appropriate even when joking.

Mark,
No one is suggesting that we run gays out of California, Tar and Feather them, take their property, execute an extermination order etc.
We claim the right to believe that nothing will be gained by the gay community other than mainstreaming the gay agenda which mormons believe is immoral. It is that simple. At the end of the day pure and simple semantics are at the heart of the issue.
By the way my Yes on 8 sign lasted less than 4 hours last Sunday. It was shredded by the time I got home from church. Nice. I am impressed by the tolerance of those claiming not be be tolerated.

Mark,
Before you attmept to lecture to people to learn of their own history, please be up to date on what you hipocritically tell people to learn. If you had done this first you would know that Mormons were run out of New York, Illinios, Missouri, and finally found reprive in Utah, and regretably JOSEPH Smith, never made it becasue he was martyred in Carthage Illinios before Brigham Young led the Mormons into Utah.
Please learn the history that you preach that others should learn.
Thank You

Fuck history and that other bullshit, it is written by human beings that might not be fit to document it, especially if that human does not have an open mind about everyone and everything. Anyone, regardless of their beliefs, have to be totally ignorant to deny a human being the right to anything in this day and age. Poor is the man that accepts that others will determine his fate. I also would like to believe that anyone that has had a rough go of life or experienced strife in anyway, would be more sympathetic to another’s plight. To be denied the rights to legally be with the one you love is downright inappropriate. Bottom line, Mormon’s or anyone else who deny me the basic human rights, should really think about what kind of God would allow hatred and disdain for another fellow human and then stop praying to him, because he aint spreading a very healthy message.
