Lt. Dan Choi on Rachel MaddowLt. Dan Choi appeared on the Rachel Maddow show tonight discussing his recent ouster from the Army National Guard thanks to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT). Rep. Joe Sestak was also on the program discussing the unfairness of the policy and how it might be repealed.

Lt. Choi responding to how DADT might be repealed…

Well, I’m not a politician myself, I just like so many thousands of others, gays and lesbians that are in the army, that are in the armed forces, who  raised their right hand and said “We are in a time of war right now;” it’s not about what timing is good or bad, its not about what you want to do, its about what your responsibility is. And we are saying that we are standing up to our responsibilities, and we are saying “we want to serve.”

It never ceases to amaze me that in the U.S. of A, that anyone who claims to be “christian” can simply break the rules and still win, lie and get ahead, and practice intolerance and be famous. But for Lt. Choi who has given his life and has specific linguistic expertise in the U.S. Army National Guard has been fired because he refuses to lie about his sexuality.
    Only in America.. Sad.

  2. George Hoye Says:

I served in the US Army in Wildflecken, Germany, 1959-1960. I worked in Battalion HQ and observed a number of dishonorable discharges to men simply accused of homosexuality off base. As a homosexual, this shocked me. How did these dishonorable discharges affect the lives of those well-trained servicemen? Now, fifty years later, we have Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell–what a stain on the honor of this country.
